New start times approved for next year

Start and end times for District 622 schools will be changing next year. The School Board approved the new schedule at its Feb. 19 meeting. District officials had proposed the change in order to add 30 minutes to the elementary school day and provide a later start time for high school students. The district will be sending letters home to all parents, notifying them of the new start and end times. Below is the approved schedule for the 2008-09 school year:

  • Castle, Cowern, Eagle Point, Oakdale and Webster Elementary Schools (Grades K-5): 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
  • Carver, Richardson, Skyview and Weaver Elementary Schools (Grades K-5): 9:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
  • John Glenn, Maplewood and Skyview Middle Schools (Grades 6-8): 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
  • North and Tartan High Schools (Grades 9-12): 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Process Outlined for Early Admission to District 622 Kindergarten

Is your child a candidate for early admission for kindergarten this fall? Parents with questions are invited to a free information session on the pros and cons of early admission to kindergarten. The information session will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 6 at the District Education Center, 2520 E. 12th Avenue, North St. Paul.

North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District policy allows parents of children who will turn age 5 between Sept. 2 and Oct. 31, to apply for early admission to kindergarten. Applications are available by calling the Special Services Department at 651-748-7456. May 23 is the deadline for application submission.

There is a $120 fee for the initial interview conducted on June 9 by a licensed school psychologist. Children who show evidence of competency above their age will then have further evaluation scheduled by appointment during that same week – between June 9 and June 13 for an additional fee.

Parents who are uncertain about whether their child would be considered advanced in development, or who wish to know more about the standards for early entrance, may call Linda Kallevang, school psychologist, at 651-748-6783. Applications will not be accepted unless parent/guardian has either attended the May 6 information session or talked to Linda by telephone.

Board approves plan to withdraw from EMID
