This office contains the Superintendent of Schools and an administrative assistant.
The Superintendent of Schools
- Serves as the district's chief executive officer, overseeing a budget of $114 million and a staff of more than 1,700 people.
- Is responsible for the management of the schools.
- Administers and helps interpret more than 100 district policies.
- Is directly accountable to the School Board.
- May delegate responsibilities to other school district personnel, but is ultimately responsible for actions taken under such delegation.
- Takes an active role in labor negotiations.
- Promotes the district to community organizations, providing education and insight into how the schools operate.
- Serves as a community relations officer for the district.
Superintendent's Administrative Assistant
- Provides clerical support for the Superintendent.
- Maintains School Board minutes and official board documents.
- Monitors budgets and expenditures for the School Board, Superintendent, Labor Management Committee and Education Center Site Council.
- Responds to dozens of phone calls daily, providing information about the district or routing the caller to other staff members.
- Prepares and distributes agendas for elected officials meetings (5 per year), teachers' meet and confer meetings (monthly during school year) and the Labor Management Committee (monthly during school year).
- Serves as liaison for policy development with the Minnesota School Boards Association.
- Serves as a resource to School Board members.
- Coordinates with the technology department in processing approval of non-resident student applications.
- Attends School Board meetings, keeping track of motions and resolutions, and taking roll call votes when needed.
- Prepares and supervises distribution of materials to the Superintendent's Cabinet and the School Board.
- Serves as informal liaison to the 622 Education Foundation.
